Hollywood Suite to air BAFTAs, Spirit Awards ceremonies

TORONTO — Hollywood Suite once again will be the exclusive Canadian broadcaster of the ceremonies celebrating the EE British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs) and the Film Independent Spirit Awards, both scheduled in February.

The BAFTAs will air live on Sunday, February 2 at 4 p.m. ET on Hollywood Suite’s HS00 channel, and will be hosted for the first time by award-winning presenter, comedian and author Graham Norton. Considered a leading indicator of who might win at the Oscars, this year’s BAFTA ceremony will air live from London’s historic Royal Albert Hall.

The 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards will air live on Saturday, February 8 at 5 p.m. ET, also on Hollywood Suite’s HS00 channel, and will be hosted for the second year in a row by actor, filmmaker and comedian Aubrey Plaza. The cooler, grittier, younger sibling to the Academy Awards, the Spirit Awards will broadcast live from a tent on Santa Monica Beach. The event serves as a relaxed lead-up to the Oscars the next day.

To put audiences in an “Awards State of Mind”, Hollywood Suite will air previous BAFTA and Spirit Award winning films throughout the month of February. Some of the films scheduled for broadcast include: The Queen, My Left Foot, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, 12 Years A Slave and You Can Count On Me.
