
TORONTO — In its latest round of funding, the Canada Media Fund (CMF) is investing a total of $6.5 million in 27 projects through its Francophone Minority Program and Diverse Languages Program, CMF announced last week.
The Francophone Minority Program supports productions that reflect the realities of living in French-language communities outside of the province of Quebec. Funding under this program is open to Canadian, French-language projects produced by companies based outside of Quebec.
As part of the second round of funding of the Francophone Minority Program, CMF will provide $3.1 million in funding to nine projects, including four children and youth projects, three documentaries, one drama series, and one variety and performing arts project. Two of the projects are from Manitoba, one is from New Brunswick, two are from Nova Scotia and four are from Ontario.
Including this round of funding, since 2010, CMF has invested more than $101 million in 249 French-language projects through the Francophone Minority Program, CMF said in a news release.
CMF’s Diverse Languages Program supports productions reflecting Canadian diversity by funding projects in languages other than English, French or Indigenous languages.
Through its Diverse Languages Program, CMF is making an investment of $3.4 million in 18 projects, including four children and youth projects, 10 documentaries, three drama series and one variety and performing arts project. Among the languages featured in the projects, one is Cantonese, five are Italian, one is Mandarin, one is Persian, one is Portuguese, three are Russian, two are Spanish, two are Tagalog, one is Ukrainian and one is a trilingual project in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.
Including this round of funding, since 2010, CMF has invested more than $23.8 million in 109 diverse languages projects.
