FREMONT, CA — Industry support continues to grow for the LoRa Alliance’s open LoRaWAN standard for the Internet of Things (IOT) low-power wide-area networks (LPWANs), with Amazon and Intel among the most recent companies to join the alliance.
In a news release Tuesday, the LoRa Alliance said it continues to see its membership grow across the globe from companies involved in the IoT from chip to cloud, which strengthens the diversity of its member ecosystem. In the past six months, a number of companies have joined the alliance at the sponsor and contributor levels, which means these companies are eligible to drive the work and direction of the LoRa Alliance and the development of the LoRaWAN standard, the news release said.
In addition to Amazon and Intel, other new leadership members include: Dish Network, Interlink Electronics and Paige Wireless LLC, all based in the United States; Tata Communications from India; Arduino SA and Thingstream AG from Switzerland; and Netze BW and Unitymedia NRW from Germany.
“The LoRa Alliance supports more than 3,000 members from more than 500 companies in the development and ongoing innovation of the LoRaWAN specifications and certification program, in addition to actively marketing the standard via news, articles, speaking and tradeshow exhibition opportunities,” said Donna Moore (pictured below), CEO and chairwoman of the LoRa Alliance, in the news release.
“We bring together the ecosystem to partner, collaborate and share information. As an open, non-profit member-driven organization, all of our sponsor and contributor members have an equal voice and vote in defining our activities. It is a huge endorsement of the LoRa Alliance to have so many recognized global brands coming on board from all areas of the IoT ecosystem to advance our work and technology.”
