WINNIPEG — After a nearly year-long executive search process, APTN announced Monday the selection of Monika Ille as the new CEO of the national Indigenous television network. In April, APTN’s outgoing CEO, Jean La Rose, announced he would be retiring from the network at the end of the year.
“We are excited to have Ms. Ille as APTN’s new CEO,” said APTN chairperson Jocelyn Formsma, in a news release. “She impressed us with her vision for APTN and we are confident she will steer the network into an exciting era of growth and expansion as we build upon our strong 20-year history of serving our audiences and communities across Canada.”
APTN launched the national executive search process to identify its new leader almost a year ago. The APTN board of directors wanted to identify a leader with a bold vision of maintaining the momentum of years past, while tackling new opportunities to make its award-winning programming available to a global audience on its new lumi OTT service.
“It is important to have a leader who can navigate APTN through a rapidly changing industry that is witnessing a dramatic shift in viewing habits from all audiences, including Indigenous audiences,” Formsma added.
Ille (pictured) originally joined APTN 16 years ago as the Quebec liaison officer before moving into the programming department. Most recently, she served as APTN’s executive director of programming and scheduling. Ille’s first day as APTN’s CEO will be on December 16, 2019.
“I am honoured and excited to have been chosen as APTN’s next CEO,” Ille said in the news release. “Having worked at APTN for the past 16 years, I truly believe APTN makes a positive, meaningful impact in the media landscape. It is a privilege to be part of an organization that delivers unique and insightful Indigenous content for all to appreciate. I will do my best to serve the network by continuing to support Indigenous creators as they make a difference by telling their stories.”
