QUEBEC — The Quebec ministry of culture and communications on Tuesday provided details of the additional $15 million in assistance to music artists it announced Sunday at the ADISQ Gala awards ceremony in Montreal.

Minister Nathalie Roy confirmed in a news release the $15 million would be provided over five years and was already included in the budget adopted by the Quebec government last spring. This investment is in addition to the $2.3 million a year granted to the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC) to directly support the Quebec music industry, the news release said.

The additional financial assistance will contribute to the promotion of Quebec music and song, particularly in the digital sphere, thanks to initiatives in discoverability and digital structuring work supported by the ministry. The money will also be used to promote the deployment of tools, strategies and models adapted to new technological environments. Finally, in addition to allowing SODEC to maintain its support for industry players, this initiative aims to give artisans the ability to innovate better to ensure the place of Quebec music and song in both Quebec and elsewhere.

“The digital transformations of recent years have brought significant challenges for all cultural artisans. Your government is aware of this, and that is why it supports artists, creators, artisans, producers and broadcasters of Quebec music who represent a milieu of extraordinary vitality. Your government will continue to stand alongside cultural artisans facing these important challenges,” Minister Roy said in a quote in the news release, translated from French.
