TORONTO – Jean Mongeau, general manager and chief revenue officer of CBC and Radio-Canada Media Solutions will be moving on to pursue new opportunities, the broadcaster announced today after almost 40 years in the industry, including over 25 with CBC/Radio-Canada
His official departure date is February 24, 2020, says the national broadcaster’s press release.
After starting out with CBC/Radio-Canada from 1980 to 1995 as a member of the sales and marketing team, he worked for a variety of companies (such as Télé-Quebec and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra) before returning to the public broadcaster in 2009 as general manager, sales and marketing.
While in his current position, Mongeau “spearheaded the merger of CBC/Radio-Canada’s advertising sales and distribution operations with an eye to creating the single, national organization we have today – the CBC & Radio-Canada Media Solutions Group,” reads the press release.
“He has a long list of achievements in our industry and played a lead role in driving its transformation on the local, national (thinktv and Numeris) and international levels through his involvement in the European Group of Television Advertising (EGTA) and the Global TV Group. We congratulate him for those initiatives,” said CBC EVP Barb Williams in the release.
“On behalf of everyone, I sincerely thank him for the great work he’s done over all these years and for his tireless commitment,” added Michel Bissonnette, EVP of Radio-Canada.
Mongeau himself says he hopes to see the industry “accelerate the paradigm shift that will take us from utility to creativity, as we join forces to take on the digital giants. We need to turn words into action,” he said in the release. “We need to embrace the global market to remain competitive and ensure the success of all domestic players.”
