TORONTO — iHeartRadio Canada’s NEWSTALK1010 is launching a new weekly podcast that will tackle the biggest challenges facing the city of Toronto today, to be hosted by former Toronto city planner Jennifer Keesmaat.

The new Within Reach with Jennifer Keesmaat podcast will do a deep dive into hot-button topics, such as urban planning, traffic management, development, housing affordability, and transit, with the ultimate goal of showing that a better Toronto is within reach, Bell Media said in a news release Thursday announcing the new podcast is available now for streaming on the iHeartRadio app and wherever podcasts are available.

Featuring frank and in-depth discussions, the Within Reach with Jennifer Keesmaat podcast will feature guests with a vast range of expertise, such as: Larry Beasley, distinguished practice professor of planning, University of British Columbia, and former chief planner for Vancouver; John Sewell, former mayor of the city of Toronto; Dave Bidini, founder of West End Phoenix, in Toronto; Janette Sadik-Khan, former commissioner of the department of transportation for New York City; Alexander Stahle, CEO of Spacespace, in Stockholm; Jeffrey Tumlin, principal and director of strategy for Nelson Nygaard, in San Francisco; Amanda Rourke, executive director of 8-80 Cities, in Toronto; and Gil Meslin, research and development manager for Artscape, in Toronto.

“The Within Reach podcast is all about moving the dial on the toughest challenges that we face as a city,” Keesmaat said in the news release. “NEWSTALK 1010 and the iHeartRadio team have been front and centre in driving this content forward, and it’s been a thrilling collaboration.”

Topics covered this fall on the podcast include “Unlocking the Congested City”, “Getting Ahead of Congested City Streets”, “The Roads Aren’t Free”, “The Value of the Neighbourhood News”, “Free Toronto: A Charter for this City”, “The Quick Redesign: Toronto Street Pilots”, “Unlocking the Affordable City”, and “Vancouverism for Toronto: Lessons”.

“Jennifer has, and continues to be, a driving force for change within the city of Toronto, and we are excited to share her vast breadth of knowledge through this new podcast,” said Mike Bendixen, program director and national format director, news and talk programming, NEWSTALK 1010. “Covering the issues that matter most to Torontonians, this podcast brings even more thought-provoking and engaging content to our iHeartRadio Canada podcast network.”
