MISSISSAUGA, ON — Globalstar Canada Satellite is introducing a new two-way satellite messaging device that enables cell phone users to stay connected even when they are off the grid or experiencing unreliable network coverage.
The new SPOT X device connects to a smartphone via Bluetooth to allow cell phone users to send and receive satellite messages through the SPOT X app. The two-way satellite messaging device (pictured) has a full QWERTY keyboard and its own dedicated Canadian mobile number, so others can conveniently message you directly at any time, Globalstar said in a news release.
SPOT X provides unlimited use of 14 pre-programmed messages and the ability to access phone contacts via the SPOT X app, so cell phone users can communicate easily with family, friends and coworkers, or directly with search-and-rescue services in the event of a life-threatening situation, Globalstar said.
“SPOT is trusted and proven satellite technology used by outdoor enthusiasts and remote workers around the world who need to stay connected when off the grid,” said Jim Mandala, vice-president of Globalstar Canada Satellite, in the news release. “With the new SPOT X app’s intuitive interface, users can access contacts, and send/receive messages via the Globalstar Satellite Network. SPOT X will work for up to 10 days on a single charge, with or without a paired phone.”
The new and improved SPOT X device with Bluetooth wireless technology and accompanying SPOT X app is the latest addition to the company’s SPOT family of messaging products, which use both the GPS satellite network and the Globalstar Satellite Network to transmit and receive text messages and GPS coordinates. Through a direct connection to the GEOS International Emergency Coordination Center, SPOT has initiated more than 6,600 rescues worldwide within the last 10 years, Globalstar said.
SPOT X will be available September 17 online and at outdoor retailers in Canada for $349.99 CAD with month-to-month Flex plans starting at $14.95 USD per month, and annual service plans starting at $11.95 USD per month. The Bluetooth feature enables satellite device functionality using an iOS- and Android-compatible SPOT X App, which is available for download now. For more information about SPOT, visit findmespot.ca.
