
MILLBROOK, Ont. – Independent network operator Nexicom announced it will be getting $2.9 million of federal funding in support of the installation of three new high-speed fibre networks in its Northumberland County, Otonabee – South Monaghan and Douro-Dummer Township regions (all near Peterborough).
As part of this partnership agreement, Nexicom will also be contributing $3 million towards the completion of the project – and the company helpfully provided specifics of its projects below.
Part of this funding was previously announced here. Federal funding is provided through the government’s Connect to Innovate program.
The structure of the funding applies to both the costs associated with installing the fibre backbone to the last mile. As per the application funding agreement, the feds will fund 75% of the associated costs to the backbone, with Nexicom funding the remaining 25%. Nexicom will cover 100% of costs associated with the completion of the last mile, notes the company press release.
The breakdown of Nexicom's portion of funding is as follows: Elizabethville, Garden Hill and Bewdley backbone: $514,220, last mile $1,090,440; Warsaw and Douro-Dummer backbone: $334,600, last mile: $583,026; and South Monaghan backbone: $113,760, last mile: $366,791.
In total Nexicom plans to provide improved services to 1,088 rural area households.
