TORONTO – CTV News announced today award-winning reporter and anchor Kevin Newman will be stepping down as host and correspondent for W5 when the investigative news show returns September 21st.
He will instead focus on a new podcast series for Bell Media’s CTV News and iHeartRadio. Full details will be announced soon, but this new podcast project “will be released in the lead-up to and throughout the Canadian federal election and will focus on issues related to technology and democracy,” says the Bell Media press release.
“We’re very supportive of Kevin’s decision and look forward to continuing our work with him in a variety of new ways, including as a contributor to CTV National News during the Canadian federal election,” said Wendy Freeman, president of CTV News, in the release.
When W5 returns for its 54th season, CTV’s chief news anchor and senior editor Lisa LaFlamme, W5 reporter and CTV National News weekend anchor Sandie Rinaldo, and W5 investigative journalists Avery Haines and Peter Akman, will be joined by a roster of distinguished correspondents from across CTV News in contributing to the show.
“I feel genuinely fortunate to have done some of the most meaningful work of my career at W5,” said Newman in the release. “After four decades of reporting, it’s time to make room for the next generation, and I am grateful to be contributing to CTV News in new ways.”
