TORONTO – Sports talk radio stalwart Bob McCown is signing off as the host of Prime Time Sports on Sportsnet 590 The Fan and Sportsnet 360.

The original host of Prime Time Sports when the show launched in 1989, McCown has hosted thousands of shows throughout his three decades and interviewed many of the biggest names in sports.  He has been recognized for his contributions to Canadian sports journalism at the Sports Media Canada Awards Ceremony in 2013, and was named ‘North American Air Talent of the Year’ at the Rick Scott & Associates Sports Radio Conference in 2007.

Sportsnet said that McCown’s last day will be Friday, and at his request, there will be no fanfare or tributes during his final shows.

While McCown’s next steps were not mentioned in the announcement, he tweeted that “speculation concerning my imminent retirement are 100% inaccurate!” and that “nobody can shut me up when I still have things to say.”

A rotating roster of hosts and “special guests” will helm Prime Time Sports throughout the summer, continued Sportsnet, and the details of a new afternoon drive show will be announced in the Fall.

“Bob is an icon in this business and a legend of our format,” said Dave Cadeau, Sportsnet 590 The Fan program director and national format director for sports, Rogers Radio, in the announcement.  “He built sports talk radio in Canada, and we are lucky to have had him on the mic and in the hallways over the last three decades.  Bob will be missed but his legacy will remain with us for years to come.”
