TORONTO – Data On Tap Inc., the company behind fledgling wireless provider dotmobile, is giving a shout out to the CRTC and ISED for moves that they say pave the way for greater competition in Canada’s wireless market.

The company, profiled last month by Cartt.ca, said that it has secured its initial seed financing round that will help to establish dotmobile headquarters in Toronto next month, and with the launch of its Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) application in beta by this fall.

“Less than thirty days after our brand concept launch, we are happy to announce that we’ve secured our initial seed investment”, said CEO Algis Akstinas, in a statement.  “We’ve reached our funding target a full month earlier than planned and we now have a clear path to launch dotmobile’s application in beta by this fall, and full wireless service in 2020. Support from the Canadian government through the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) directive and presumptive CRTC policy changes have cleared a path for tiny telecoms, companies like us. We are excited to showcase our unique vision to Canadians and solicit their input a full year ahead of our launch in 2020 at our website.”

Data On Tap also announced strategic partnerships with U.S. firm Apptium Technologies to build the modern backend of dotmobile, and Lithuanian development company iTo that will build the application’s front-end, in association with the digital experience designers at dotmobile HQ.

“Today’s announcements are illustrative of our innovation partner strategy: sharing a common vision, collaborating on a transparent roadmap and creating value for everyone”, added CXO Alex Bauman.  “In addition to that, each partner has the opportunity to showcase telcotech innovations without being bound by the rigidity of legacy systems. With four specialized technology delivery centers around the world we will have around the clock development and innovation.”
