TORONTO – The Canadian Media Producers Association and NABET 700-M Unifor have jointly announced the successful conclusion of negotiations on a new collective agreement.
The tentative deal will establish the terms, conditions and rates for a number of technical crew members engaged in film, TV and digital media productions in Ontario, including construction, hair, makeup, props, transportation, lighting, sound and set dressing.
Details of the new agreement in principle will be presented to the CMPA board and NABET 700-M Unifor membership for ratification in the coming weeks. The current CMPA / NABET 700-M Unifor collective agreement expires on December 31, 2018.
“NABET crew members are essential partners in production, and we are proud to have reached an agreement that recognizes the importance of each and every role they occupy,” said CMPA VP of national industrial relations and senior counsel, Warren Ross, in a statement. “Given the unprecedented pace of production in the province, the conclusion of these negotiations will help to provide certainty and stability to the Ontario production sector as it continues to grow and thrive.”
NABET 700-M UNIFOR represents over 3,000 qualified technicians in 15 departments of the film, television and digital media production industry in Ontario.
“Our relationship with Canadian producers has never been stronger,” added NABET 700-M Unifor president Jonathan Ahee. “We were able to address our mutual concerns at the bargaining table and can now return our focus to ensuring Ontario remains globally competitive so we can continue to build our world class screen-based industry.”
