COO role won’t be filled
TORONTO – Barb Williams, executive vice-president and Chief Operating Officer of Corus Entertainment, will be leaving the company on October 31st, the broadcaster announced early Wednesday.
Williams joined Corus as part of its acquisition of Shaw Media on April 1, 2016 and has “played a key role in the successful integration of the two companies and creating a compelling vision for the future”, reads the announcement.
As a result of the “strong and highly experienced leadership team” that she developed and leaves behind, Corus added that it will not replace the COO role.
"Barb's support and dedication has been invaluable since our transformational acquisition of Shaw Media, as we've successfully integrated the two companies to create Canada's leading pure play media and content company," said president and CEO Doug Murphy, in the announcement. "I'm incredibly proud of what Barb has helped us build over the past two-and-a-half years. All of us at Corus wish her well in the future."
Corus' announcement said that Williams will be "retiring" from the company, and did not mention her next steps.
A widely recognized and long-time leader in Canada's broadcast industry, Williams will receive the Hall of Fame award for lifetime achievement from the Ontario Association of Broadcasters at the organization’s fall conference on November 8, 2018.
