Food Network Canada available on national free preview in October

TORONTO – Food Network Canada is cooking up the inaugural season of franchise Iron Chef Canada that will premiere on October 17 at 10:00 PM ET/PT.

The world’s biggest, boldest food competition series will deliver all of the world-class dishes, high-stakes drama and engaging characters that are the hallmark of the Iron Chef brand with a distinctive Canadian flavour, said the Corus-owned service.

At the helm is Canadian television personality, accomplished food writer and trained culinary expert Gail Simmons as host; critically acclaimed food critic Chris Nuttall-Smith as floor reporter; and Vancouver-native Jai West as the dynamic chairman. The Iron Chefs include Ottawa-born vegetarian chef and owner of award-winning New York City restaurant Dirt Candy Amanda Cohen, and Vancouver-based chef and Cactus Club executive chef Rob Feenie – both former Iron Chef America competitors.  They will join Canadian Iron Chefs Hugh Acheson, Lynn Crawford and Susur Lee.

Each episode of Iron Chef Canada sees chefs face off in a head-to-head battle with an esteemed Canadian Iron Chef. Each has 60 minutes to prepare five dishes using a featured “secret ingredient”, and the dishes are judged on taste, presentation and originality by a panel of culinary experts and industry professionals. The chef with the highest score wins bragging rights and that battle.

“We are ecstatic to introduce a truly authentic Canadian version of this immensely popular format to viewers across the country,” said Lisa Godfrey, Corus’ VP of original content, in the news release.  “With the stellar all-Canadian cast at the forefront and a roster of legendary Iron Chefs battling some of the most talented chefs in the country, the culinary showdowns are sure to be must-see events.”
