TORONTO – Streamer DAZN announced this week that it will add more soccer, more cricket and more boxing to its expanding lineup of live, and recorded, content.
The company has added the annual Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 (CPL T20) cricket tournament which will see all 34 matches available to stream or replay on demand beginning with the August/September 2018 tournament and continuing with a rights deal for the 2019, 2020 and 2021 events.
This follows the June 2018 announcement of agreements with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), and the English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Also this week, DAZN announced a new three-year rights deal (2018/19-2020/21) for Serie A TIM, Italy’s top soccer league. Beginning this month, all 380 Serie A matches will be shown on DAZN Canada’s growing platform. This is for the digital rights only as Telelatino announced this week it has secured the TV rights.
The deal extends DAZN’s coverage of Serie A TIM in Canada where it was previously offered as part of a carriage agreement with beIN Sports. DAZN has also won exclusive rights to Serie A TIM in Germany and Austria, and co-exclusively in Japan. Earlier this summer, DAZN entered the Italian market with114 exclusive Serie A TIM matches and all Serie B matches.
DAZN also streamed the 2018 Super Cup match live on Twitter Wednesday August 15th. It’s the annual soccer match organized by UEFA and contested by the reigning champions of the two main European club competitions. This year it was Real Madrid versus Atletico Madrid.
Finally, the streaming service announced this week it added more boxing for Canadian fight fans. It announced a new three-year Canadian distribution agreement with World Boxing Super Series (WBSS). The professional boxing tournament will make 15 fight nights available to fans in Canada and the U.S. only on DAZN.
Launched in 2017, the WBSS is an annual boxing tournament that brings together the ‘best of the best’ fighters to compete at venues around the world for the Muhammad Ali trophy, according to the release. The agreement will start with the broadcast of the 2018-19 season this fall and include footage from the initial draft Gala event, announcing the draw for Bantamweight and Super Lightweight divisions.
