TORONTO – Ontario media outlets are joining together to broadcast a televised Ontario Leaders Debate in the lead up to the 2018 Ontario general election.
CBC, CHCH, CPAC, CTV News, Global News, and TVO will air the debate, which is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 27 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM ET at the CBC Broadcast Centre in downtown Toronto. CHCH will air the debate from 8:00 PM – 9:30 PM.
The debate is open to all major party leaders running candidates in all Ontario ridings that currently have an elected MPP sitting in the provincial legislature. As such, invitations have been sent to the leader of the Liberal Party of Ontario, the leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative party, and the leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party.
The debate will be moderated by Ontario journalists Steve Paikin (TVO) and Farah Nasser (Global News). Questions posed during the debate will come from the two moderators (curated by a wider group of journalists working for members of the broadcast partnership), as well as from a mix of Ontario voters asking questions live in-studio and via video. There will also be an opportunity for candidates to ask questions of each other.
