NEW YORK – NBCUniversal’s international all reality show over-the-top streaming service, Hayu, is to launch in Canada this year, the company said today.
Hayu, launched in 2016, is on offer in the U.K, Australia and Ireland.
In a statement released to media but reported first by Deadline, the company said it will launch here, but not exactly when, or at what price. "Given that reality content is hugely popular in Canada, we are pleased to be readying Hayu — an SVOD product with a proven track record — specifically curating the service for Canadian fans of the genre," said Hendrik McDermott, senior vice-president o branded and on-demand content at NBCUniversal, in that statement.
According to the company Hayu features over 3,000 episodes of about 150 shows including Keeping Up with the Kardashians, its spin-offs, as well as The Real Housewives, Million Dollar Listing and Top Chef franchises.
The majority of the American shows debut on the service the same day as their U.S. launch for £3.99/€4.99/A$5.99 on a rolling monthly subscription that starts with a 30 day free trial, reads the Hayu web site.
At this point, its not known if Hayu will have the rights to all of the same content being offered to subscribers elsewhere. For example. Top Chef airs in Canada on Corus Entertainment’s Food Network and episodes are also streamed on foodnetwork.ca.
More to come on this one.
