REGINA – SaskTel said that it has nearly completed a $4.2 million project to expand its high speed Fusion Internet to 34 additional towers serving rural Saskatchewan.
The Crown corporation said that the initiative will be completed in April after it has equipped the towers that serve the vicinities of Shellbrook, Southey, and Stoughton. Once the project is complete, SaskTel will operate 102 Fusion equipped towers throughout the province, with each tower delivering a reliable high speed Internet connection with download speeds of up to 10 Mbps for rural customers.
“Our vision is to be the best at connecting our customers to their world,” said acting SaskTel president and CEO Doug Burnett, in the news release. “By expanding our Fusion Internet service deeper into rural Saskatchewan we are bringing that vision to life.”
SaskTel’s Fusion expansion project is phase one of the Government of Saskatchewan’s four-phase initiative to provide rural communities with enhanced access to reliable cellular and high speed Internet services.
“As the first phase of our joint initiative with SaskTel comes to a close, the focus will soon shift towards phase two, improving the cellular service in many rural communities throughout the province”, added Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel.
