REGINA – SaskTel is gearing up for a busy holiday season after projecting that its customers will make nearly 710,000 calls, and send nearly 4.5 million text messages on December 25.
That estimate includes approximately 235,000 landline calls and 475,000 wireless calls. Roughly 40% of Christmas Day calls are expected to be made to locations within Saskatchewan, while about 54% of the calls placed will be to Canadian destinations outside of the province. About 6% of the calls will go to the United States and other various international locations.
SaskTel also projects that customers will use more than 95,000 GB of data on December 25.
The increase in calling during the holidays may result in some temporary network congestion, which the company said is a normal result of any sudden increase in activity on its landline and wireless networks.
Customers can minimize any inconvenience by:
– placing calls outside of the busy hours of 10 AM to 2 PM and 7 PM to 10 PM;
– verify phone numbers in advance;
– take time zones into consideration.
