TORONTO – Sony Electronics said Wednesday that users with 2017 and select 2016 Sony 4K HDR televisions with Android TV can now use the Google Assistant to discover and access content, as well as to control other smart home devices.
The Google Assistant on Sony TV works by pushing the microphone button on the remote and then asking a question or saying a command. This allows users to play back or search for content from selected services such as YouTube and Netflix, play music, stream photos, control their TV and smart home devices and find general information such as weather or directions through their Sony TV.
According to the news release, the 2016 editions of Sony’s XBR – Z9D, XBR -X800D, XBR – X750/X700D and all of its 2017 Android TVs will feature Google Assistant after downloading the software update.
Currently Google Assistant will only recognize English voice commands in Quebec.
