TORONTO – All of Blue Ant Media’s channels will air a new version of a Radiohead song next week that has been reworked for BBC’s nature documentary series Planet Earth: Blue Planet II.
The English rock band has teamed up with movie and TV composer Hans Zimmer on an “orchestrally reimagined” version of the Radiohead song (ocean) bloom, from their 2011 album The King of Limbs. The track will be featured in a five-minute prequel, which will be released globally by BBC Worldwide on September 27. That day, the prequel will air in Canada at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT across all of Blue Ant Media’s Canadian specialty channels, including BBC Earth, Cottage Life, Love Nature, Makeful, T+E, A.Side, HIFI and Smithsonian Channel Canada. A shorter version of the collaboration will also roll out on BBC Earth’s social media platforms in Canada.
Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, Planet Earth: Blue Planet II will air on BBC One in the UK later this year, and premiere in Canada in early 2018, exclusively on BBC Earth.
“This collaboration between an iconic Grammy-winning band and an Oscar-winning orchestral composer is simply mouthwatering – and (ocean) bloom doesn’t disappoint”, said executive producer James Honeyborne, in the news release. “It’s an incredibly powerful companion to the scenes we’ve spent years capturing. What a great curtain-raiser to the upcoming series that we just can’t wait to share with everyone.”
In Canada, BBC Earth is owned and operated by Blue Ant Media in partnership with BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC.
