MONTREAL – Stingray said Monday that its free Stingray Music mobile app has reached 2 million downloads, doubling its user base since the same time last year.

Over the past 12 months, 33 million monthly visitors have spent an average of 9.2 hours a week listening to Stingray Music’s curated channels, up from five hours a week the previous year, and more than 60% of the downloads originated in Canada, the company said.

The Stingray Music mobile app features over 2,000 channels in 100 genres, including 200 channels dedicated to Canadian music.  It may be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play

“It is incredibly rewarding to witness the widespread adoption of the Stingray Music mobile app, especially right here at home,” said Stingray’s SVP marketing and communications Mathieu Péloquin, in the news release. “Although downloads do not tell the whole story behind the success of any app, hitting such an important milestone validates our commitment to providing listeners with the greatest music discovery app on the market. There are many other streaming services out there, but none that are dedicated to promoting Canadian talent from coast to coast. We will continue to improve and develop our service, and pursue our mission of promoting local talent here and abroad.”
