EDMONTON – Super Channel has promoted Don McDonald to president and CEO, less than a year after awarding him the COO title.

In his new role, which was effective June 30, McDonald (pictured) will lead all strategy and operations for the network’s four multiplex channels, while continuing to oversee the company’s corporate finance and accounting functions, reads Monday’s announcement. He replaces Charles Allard,  who, of course, remains the parent company's owner.

McDonald initially joined Super Channel in 2009 as a financial consultant. In May 2012, he assumed the role of executive director, finance & administration before being named chief operating officer in September 2016.  As COO, he has been responsible for redefining the company’s strategic direction and establishing new processes, tools and systems to manage costs and effectively see the company through a successful restructuring process, continues the announcement.

In addition, he has been responsible for spearheading a variety of new programming initiatives including the launch of eSports tv channel GINX Esports TV Canada and the successful rebrand of SC3 into Super Channel Vault.

Allarco's Super Channel remains under Companies Creditors Arrangement Act protection, where it has been since May 2016, owing $115.7 million – and recently had that protection extended until October 31, 2017.

“I am delighted that Don will be taking the company forward as the new President and CEO of Super Channel” said Allarco chairman Charles Allard, in the announcement.  “He has demonstrated tremendous leadership and unwavering commitment to the growth and success of Super Channel in his current role as COO. His vision, focus and financial expertise have successfully navigated the company through a restructuring process and positioned the company for continued profitable growth.”
