MONTREAL – Cogeco Connexion brought its Gigabit Internet service to Quebec Tuesday, launching in various sectors of Trois-Rivières.

UltraFibre 1Gig service will roll out in successive phases in the Ontario and Québec markets where Cogeco Connexion provides services.  It debuted in Cogeco’s Oakville and Burlington, ON markets last November.

According to the company’s website, pricing starts at $148.95 per month for residential customers and includes the 1 Gig modem, the advanced AC Wi-Fi router and up to 2 AC Wi-Fi extenders (additional AC Wi-Fi extenders are offered at $4.95/month each).  Business customers will pay $179.95 per month with a three year commitment when bundled with other Cogeco services, or $10 more per month if not bundled.  Business Ultimate 1 Gig Internet packages are $249.95 per month without a commitment.

Cogeco Connexion said it is launching this service to prepare for the ultra-connected homes and businesses of the future, utilizing its hybrid network consisting of coaxial cable (HFC) and 11,000 km of linear fibre running from Windsor, Ontario to Gaspé in Québec.

“We are confident that, in pursuing the optimization of our network, which combines DOCSIS Evolution technology with Cogeco Connexion’s Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH)/EPON technology, we will be in a position to deliver speeds far exceeding 1 gigabit,” said engineering and operations VP Michel Blais, in the news release. “As we continue to leverage our networks, we will keep pace with our customers’ needs. We will see to it that our customers have access to the right bandwidth speed and equipment, wireless technologies and service to optimize their online enjoyment.”
