TORONTO – Greater Toronto Area residents are being encouraged to commit random acts of kindness on Thursday as part of the second annual Greater Toronto Day.

Spearheaded by Global News Toronto and Corus Radio stations 102.1 the Edge, Q107 and AM 640, #GreaterTorontoDay focuses on making the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) a better place to live and work through an engaging social media campaign. Those living in the GTA are encouraged to participate by performing small acts of kindness, such as  buying the next person in line a coffee, paying someone’s way on the TTC or donating to a local food bank, and then sharing them on social media with the hashtag #GreaterTorontoDay.  By engaging with the event on social media, three participants will have a chance to receive $1,000 to donate to a local charity of their choice.

A special Global News at 5:30 & 6 p.m. broadcast will highlight people participating in the campaign and showcase citizens who are committed every day to making the GTA a great place to work and live.  Additional Greater Toronto Day coverage will be featured on The Morning Show, News at Noon, Global News at 11 p.m., 102.1 the Edge, Q107 and AM 640.

"At Corus, we’re constantly striving to make this city better," said Jackie Moss, marketing & promotions, Global News Toronto, 102.1 the Edge, Q107 and AM 640, in the news release.  "That's why we’re encouraging GTA residents to participate in their communities and why we'll be out all day engaging with our TV viewers and radio listeners, doing our part to spread goodwill."
