OTTAWA and REDHILL, SURREY, UK – Telesat has expanded its agreement with NSSL Global in a move that sees the UK-based company contract a satellite transponder on Telesat’s Telstar 12 Vantage satellite.

The additional capacity will allow NSSLGlobal to further enhance its VSAT IP@SEA, Cruise-IP and Broad-IP services, enabling the provision of even more robust mobile broadband availability to passenger and merchant vessels navigating the African, Mediterranean and Northern European waterways, reads the news release.

The high throughput Telstar 12 Vantage, operating at 15 degrees West, provides superior coverage of Europe and Africa while bringing new capacity to high growth mobility markets in the Mediterranean and North Sea.

“NSSLGlobal is highly respected for implementing maritime broadband services that combine high performance with superior value and Telesat is pleased to provide the satellite capacity at the core of their success,” said Telesat’s VP international sales Tom Eaton, in the release. “Telstar 12 VANTAGE is a powerful high throughput satellite designed to provide NSSLGlobal with important operational and commercial advantages. We look forward to building our ties to NSSLGlobal and delivering to them the superior technical performance and outstanding support they have come to expect from Telesat.”
