REGINA – SaskTel has expanded LTE coverage for the first time to 62 towers in the rural areas and communities around Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, along Highway 11 between Regina and Saskatoon and west of Highway 11, and communities along Highway 7 west of Saskatoon.
The Crown corp. said Friday that in addition to offering customers speeds that are up to 10 times faster than on 4G, the deployment of LTE will lay the groundwork for future network enhancements, such as the introduction Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
SaskTel also continues to add capacity to LTE within Regina, Saskatoon and Moose Jaw as part of its commitment to invest over $300 million in capital in the province in 2016/17 and $1.4 billion through 2016-2021.
“SaskTel understands that our customers want access to fast and reliable data connections wherever they go,” said president and CEO Ron Styles, in the news release. “By expanding our LTE network to 99% of the population of the province we’re making that dream into a reality.”
