SEATTLE – Amazon Prime Video officially arrived in Canada on Wednesday as part of a larger expansion making the global video streaming service available in more than 200 countries, proving Bell Media president Mary Ann Turcke correct, if just off by a couple of weeks.
Cartt.ca has been predicting a 2017 launch of the service in Canada for some time, as well.
The service is included at no additional cost to Canadians with an annual membership to Amazon Prime, which offers free expedited shipping on select items from the massive e-retailer. According to the company’s website, a one year standalone membership is available for CDN $79 after the 30 day free trial, though Quebec residents receive an initial 13 month membership for $79, instead of a free trial.
Subscribers in other new Prime Video territories may sign on for the introductory price of $2.99 (or €2.99) per month for the first six months, which includes a free 7 day trial.
Content includes original series like The Grand Tour, The Man in the High Castle, Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, and children’s shows like Tumble Leaf and Creative Galaxy, as well as a library of other movies and TV series. Programming is available in English, with French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish subtitled and dubbed versions also available for many titles.
Subscribers can watch anytime, anywhere through the Amazon Prime Video app on Android and iOS phones and tablets, Fire Tablets, select LG and Samsung Smart TVs or online. Content can also be downloaded for offline viewing no additional cost.
Prime Video also allows subscribers to control how much data they use when streaming and downloading video by choosing between Good, Better and Best visual quality settings, which uses the service’s video compression technology to use less data without reducing visual quality.
