MONTREAL – Videotron cut the ribbon on its new $40 million data centre in Montreal on Tuesday.

Designed specifically for data hosting, the 4,000-square-metre facility has an available load of 16 megawatts and is located in Technoparc Saint-Laurent.  The centre is now connected to the Quebec City centre via the company’s fibre optic network, allowing Videotron to offer Tier III certified intraprovincial redundancy.

The company added that it is also in the process of obtaining Payment Card Industry – Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) certification, meaning customers will be able to operate their e-commerce solutions in accordance with the most stringent security standards in the industry.

“In an age when big data and cloud computing have become business basics, the opening of the 4Degrees data centre in Montréal is an important step in strengthening Videotron’s foothold in the booming data hosting business,” said Videotron president and CEO Manon Brouillette, in the news release.  “This move equips us to offer businesses a full line of colocation solutions tailored to their needs. We are confident it will further bolster our position as Québec’s business telecommunications leader.”
