REGINA – Telecommunication union Unifor is behind a series of radio ads airing across Saskatchewan that tell Premier Brad Wall to "back away from the phone" in his bid to sell SaskTel.
Unifor, which represents nearly 3,800 workers at SaskTel in many communities, said Thursday that in addition to the radio ads, it will fight the potential privatization of the Crown Corp “by mobilizing support for SaskTel in all regions of the province”. Premier Wall has mused about the future of SaskTel if approached by private corporations about a sale, as Cartt.ca has reported.
"SaskTel should remain what it always has been: a solid service that is owned by the people of Saskatchewan, for the people of Saskatchewan", said Unifor Western director Joie Warnock, in a statement. "Brad Wall is reaching well beyond the mandate he has from voters. In the election he explicitly told voters that he would not privatize SaskTel."
