TORONTO – CBC Radio One has named CBC Radio Two morning host Tom Power as the new voice of its long-running daily arts, culture and entertainment program q.

Current q host Shadrach Kabango (Shad) will host his final show on August 16, though the public broadcaster said that Shad “will explore new creative opportunities including a new radio show with CBC”.

Power (pictured) joined CBC in 2008 as the host of Deep Roots and was named host of Radio 2 Morning in 2011.  He will take the helm at q in October and a new host for Radio 2 Morning will be announced at a later time.  Jennifer Moroz, executive producer of special projects at the Corp, has been named as the show’s new executive producer.

“We are refocusing and reinvesting in q to ensure it continues to evolve and deliver what our audience wants from CBC Radio’s flagship music, arts and cultural program,” said executive director of CBC Radio English Services Susan Marjetti, in a statement on Monday.  “Tom is a great fit for q. We look forward to exploring a new show with Shad that plays to his strengths and passion for music. Shad remains part of our CBC family.”

q is heard twice daily on CBC Radio One (10 AM and 10 PM), on more than 120 public radio stations across the United States, and three times daily on Sirius XM 169.
