LONDON, ONT. — Hockey fans in the London area will be able to listen to more than 150 live NHL games next season with the announcement NewsTalk 1290 CJBK has secured the broadcast rights for Leafs, Senators, Red Wings and Sabres games.

NewsTalk 1290’s live NHL coverage will begin Wednesday, October 12 when the Toronto Maple Leafs face off against the Ottawa Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa. The radio station’s coverage of the Leafs, Senators, Detroit Red Wings and Buffalo Sabres games will continue throughout the league’s regular 2016-2017 season and playoffs.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Leafs, Senators, Red Wings, and Sabres to the CJBK family,” Don Mumford, vice-president and general manager of Bell Media Radio, London, said in a news release. “With more than 150 NHL games prominently anchoring our sports lineup, NewsTalk 1290 is going all in on sports in the evenings. London sports fans will have access to the biggest draws in sports, from national favourites like the Toronto Maple Leafs to local staples like the Western Mustangs.”

Securing the broadcast rights to the Leafs, Senators, Red Wings and Sabres games helps to bolster the station’s roster of live sports, which already includes the Western Mustangs varsity hockey games and NFL Football broadcasts, and live coverage of other sporting events such as the Grep Cup, World Juniors and Super Bowl.

The announcement of NewsTalk 1290 CJBK London’s new NHL broadcast agreement comes the same week Bell Media Radio officially announced it is shuttering another London radio station, CKSL-AM Funny 1410, as reported earlier by Cartt.ca.

Radio listeners can tune into NewsTalk 1290 CJBK on AM 1290 in the London area, and online at CJBK.com.
