TORONTO — The Canada Media Fund will award more than $4.7 million in development and marketing support to innovative digital media companies in Canada as part of the CMF’s 2016-2017 Experimental Stream funding initiative.

In a news release on Wednesday, the CMF announced it had awarded $3.3 million in development support to a total of 15 Canadian companies and $1.4 million in marketing support to seven interactive digital media projects.

The development funds will support the 15 recipients as they conceptualize an eligible project, develop the creative and technical elements of an eligible project, and draft a product proposal for business development and financing purposes, the CMF explained in its news release. Among the digital media projects to receive development support funding are 12 games, two applications and one software application. The details of the projects that have been awarded development support can be seen by clicking here.

The seven interactive digital media projects that will receive marketing support include five games, one software application and one e-book. The CMF said marketing support provides funding for the marketing and promotion of an eligible project, such as the creation of national and international marketing campaigns, as well as design costs, creation and market-testing of advertising, use of the Internet for promotion or transactions, and other marketing-related expenditures. The details of the projects that have received marketing support can be seen here.

Since the Experimental Stream fund was created in 2010, the CMF has contributed more than $69.7 million in development and marketing support to 316 interactive digital media projects.

The Canada Media Fund fosters, develops, finances and promotes the production of Canadian content and applications for all audiovisual media platforms. The CMF guides Canadian content towards a competitive global environment by fostering industry innovation, rewarding success, enabling a diversity of voice, and promoting access to content through public and private sector partnerships.
