REGINA – SaskTel is launching its fibre optic network infiNET in some residential areas of Estevan, and will begin to connect its high speed Internet and maxTV customers in completed areas of the city.
infiNET is being deployed through SaskTel’s fibre to the premises (FTTP) program, a $670 million investment to deploy fibre optics directly to homes and upgrade the broadband network in the nine largest urban centers in the province: Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford and Prince Albert.
Once connected, infiNET will allow customers to experience Internet speeds of up to 260 Mbps for downloading and 60 Mbps for uploading, plus enable the company's MaxTV customers to receive HD programming and digital TV recording delivered to every set-top box in the home.
“We are proud to be the sole provider in this province that can deliver a direct to home fibre connection,” said president and CEO Ron Styles, in Thursday’s news release. “infiNET will allow our customers to download HD movies and music, enjoy uninterrupted streaming, and transfer files faster than before while also future proofing our network by providing the capacity to significantly increase speeds over time without the need to replace the fibre.”
