VANCOUVER – Telus customers in British Columbia and Alberta may now watch ultra-high-definition television with the launch of 4K on Optik TV.

Customers will require a 4K TV, a 4K PVR, as well as a minimum of Internet 50 to support 4K streaming. Telus said that its new 4K PVRs will store up to 400 hours of HD content, or up to 100 hours of 4K content, double the capacity of its current HD PVR.  The 4K PVRs are available at no additional cost with a two-year commitment.

At launch, the 4K lineup will include TSN 4K, "adrenaline sports" (e.g., snowboarding, surfing and dirt biking) On Demand, Stingray Ambiance and various On Demand movies and Optik Local productions. New titles and channels will be added on an ongoing basis as additional 4K programming becomes available from content providers.

"Telus is committed to offering our customers the most cutting-edge entertainment experience, and being the first to offer 4K TV in B.C. and Alberta is an exciting leap forward in the evolution of Optik TV," said Telus' Home Solutions VP Wade Domries, in the news release.  "We're just beginning to see the introduction of 4K programming, and over the next few years it will become industry standard.  As more and more shows, movies and sporting events are produced in 4K, Telus customers will be able to enjoy the most advanced TV viewing experience available."
