SAN FRANCISCO – Ethnic Channels Group and broadcast video distribution company Nextologies (a partner of ECG) are teaming up to bring new global OTT service JungoTV to Canada this Fall.
JungoTV is an OTT digital streaming service offering foreign language TV and film content from around the world to consumers wanting content in their native language from their homeland. Content will include HD and SD news, entertainment, dramas and sports, and the service will be priced between $9.95 and $14.95, according to Monday’s news release.
The privately funded venture is co-founded by celebrity physician and TV personality Dr. Mehmet Oz, Entertainment Media Ventures CEO Sandy Climan, and George Chung, who will also serve as CEO.
“With the market for international content growing rapidly, we knew it was the right time to launch JungoTV, which is the first premium service of its kind serving a global multilingual community”, said Dr. Oz, in the release. “Through our partnerships with top-tier global content aggregators we can provide superior quality programming for customers who have waited to reconnect with their culture and lifestyle.”
“We saw an opportunity to provide these underserved ethnic communities with high quality television content at a low price that they can enjoy and connect them to their homeland in a convenient way”, added Chung.
JungoTV will be available on iOS, Android and most connected devices, and launch with over 30,000 hours of on demand programming targeting in-language communities including Arabic, Chinese, Filipino, Greek, Iranian, Italian, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese.
The name of the company 'Jungo' is Latin for “to bring together” or “unite” which embodies the company’s vision of bringing in-language television content to customers worldwide, continues the release.
