TekSavvy rallies customers in push for mandated SLAs

CHATHAM, ON – TekSavvy is calling on its customers to ask the CRTC to implement rules around “competitor quality of service”, also known as Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

In an open letter on its website, TekSavvy CEO Marc Gaudrault apologized for the company’s recent Internet service outages and then used the opportunity to suggest that wholesale network access providers should face CRTC-imposed consequences as an incentive to collaborate with independent telcos like it on troubleshooting.

“I believe we have delivered a high-quality service over the years. We are now working harder than ever to make it that way going forward”, reads the letter.  “But the process was not helped by a lack of experience in collaborating with wholesale network access providers on resolving this kind of outage. They are also our competitors. They don’t always have an incentive to collaborate. We have very little bargaining power with them. If they weren’t forced to, they might not even be selling wholesale network access and fueling competition in the first place.”

Gaudrault goes on to encourage customers to ask the CRTC to mandate SLAs “by writing them a thoughtful note as to how a lack of SLAs affects you”, and to also voice their opinion to their MPs and Minister of Innovation Navdeep Bains.

“Your voice matters, and if you’re anywhere near as frustrated as we’ve been, you’ll take the chance to use it”, the letter continues.  “By speaking out and helping put in place fairer rules you’ll be helping, not just TekSavvy, but all competitors, in balancing out the playing field a little bit better.”
