TORONTO – CBC/Radio-Canada has named Alex Johnston as its new VP of strategy and public affairs (S&PA).
Johnston, pictured, joins the public broadcaster from Catalyst Canada where she was executive director. She also served as executive director of policy in the office of Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty for eight years and has practiced corporate law at Goodmans LLP.
“Alex is a big thinker, and her energy and enthusiasm are what the public broadcaster needs as it builds its future and continues its transformation through Strategy 2020”, said president and CEO Hubert Lacroix, in a note to employees. “What’s more, she values strong relationships and is an effective leader: qualities that are key for this role”
Johnston replaces Marco Dube who led the S&PA team on an interim basis over the last seven months.
“Marco chose not to be a candidate for the permanent position as he sees his long-term development opportunities within French Services”, continues Lacroix’s note. “Marco will remain in the position until March 31, 2016, to provide support throughout the transition, after which he’ll head back to his job as Director, Radio-Canada Ottawa-Gatineau. Thanks also to Yvan Cloutier for taking up that role in the interim.”
“I believe wholeheartedly in the role the public broadcaster plays in our communities and across the country”, added Johnston. “For this reason, among many others, I am delighted to be joining the team and I can’t wait to get started.”
