
TORONTO – Laurie McAllister has been promoted to the new director of ACTRA's Performers’ Rights Society and Recording Artists’ Collecting Society, the organization said Wednesday.
McAllister (pictured) joined ACTRA in October, playing a key role in negotiations for the recently ratified independent production deal, before replacing Brad Keenan as director of PRS/RACS in December. She was previously director of business affairs, in-house production at Bell Media.
“Laurie brings a tremendous amount of experience and talent to this role. We’re fortunate to have her putting her insights and knowledge to work in protecting the rights of Canadian professional performers here at ACTRA”, said ACTRA national executive director Stephen Waddell, in the announcement.
In other news, Elliott Anderson is joining ACTRA as the temporary replacement for Jacob Leibovitch, director of public policy, research and communications, who will be taking a six-month paternity leave. Anderson brings a variety of experience to the acting director role having worked in television news, the labour movement, Queen’s Park and Parliament Hill, continues the announcement.
