Netflix stocks up on new series for older kids

BEVERLY HILLS, CA – Netflix is bulking up on kids content after announcing Thursday that it is adding seven new original series to its lineup aimed at older children.

Beginning this December, the streaming service will launch anime inspired Glitter Force and original family sitcom Dawn of the Croods, followed by new stories from LEGO Bionicle (pictured) and LEGO Friends in early 2016. 

Netflix said that it is also broadening its offering for tweens and teens with the live action show Lost & Found Music Studios, where the next hit song may be just one heartbreak away, while fans of fast and funny will enjoy the stop-motion, action-comedy of Buddy ThunderstruckLas Leyendas (The Legends), the service’s its first ever original animated series produced in Latin America, will arrive in 2017.

"Roughly half of our 65 million members around the world regularly watch kids content and with the addition of these seven diverse original series we are continuing our strong investment in kids programming," said Netflix’s director of global kids content Andy Yeatman, in the news release.  "We know kids love Netflix and that's in part because they never really outgrow us. We program and recommend new TV shows and movies from preschool through their teen years and into adulthood."
