MONTREAL – Small businesses, self-employed workers, seasonal workers and merchants on-the-go now have a secure way to accept debit and credit card payments after Desjardins Group unveiled two new mobile payment solutions Wednesday.

Monetico Mobile and Monetico Mobile + use a keypad the size of a small calculator connected via Bluetooth to an Android (Google) or iOS (Apple) smartphone or tablet loaded with the Monetico Mobile app.  The merchant enters the amount of the transaction on their smartphone or tablet and passes the keypad to the customer. The customer inserts their chip card in the keypad, and enters their PIN.  Receipts can be sent by email or text message.

Monetico Mobile says it is ideal for owners of micro-businesses and self-employed workers who are frequently on the move or who have occasional or seasonal needs for a payment solution.  Available for $49 (though free to Desjardins members), it accepts payments by Visa and MasterCard credit cards.

Monetico Mobile + is designed for clients with more regular payment needs, and those who are looking for advanced management options for their business. With this solution, clients can create quotes, invoices and product catalogues, and manage their business expenses. It accepts payments by Visa, MasterCard, American Express and JCB credit cards, as well as Interac direct payment. Desjardins members get 15% off the monthly $19.95 rental fee.

"We're proud to offer these innovative payment solutions tailored to the needs of small businesses and self-employed workers to support their growth," said managing VP and card and payment services GM, André Chatelain, in the news release.  "We're confident that these solutions will help them build customer loyalty and even increase their customer base."

Monetico is a jointly owned company created in 2013 by Desjardins Group and France's Crédit Mutuel.
