Two-thirds of Canadians viewed CBC/Radio-Canada coverage of Toronto Pan Am Games

TORONTO — The audience numbers are in, and CBC/Radio-Canada says almost two-thirds of Canadians tuned into its Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games coverage from July 10 to 26. Overall, more than 22 million Canadians, or 63% of the population, watched at least some part of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Pan Am Games coverage.

In addition, the closing ceremony aired on Sunday, July 26 drew an average audience of almost 2.2 million Canadians to CBC-TV and ICI Radio-Canada Télé, according to a CBC/Radio-Canada press release. CBC-TV’s Pan Am Prime evening broadcast with host Scott Russell had its highest viewership on Thursday, July 23, with 1.3 million Canadians tuning on. The next-highest audience for Pan Am Prime occurred on Saturday, July 25, with 1.2 million viewers.

On the digital side, CBC/Radio-Canada said its digital offerings generated more than 30 million total page views across its desktop, mobile and app platforms. Furthermore, more than 3.2 million video views were generated through desktop, mobile sites and the app on CBC/Radio-Canada’s digital offerings. The busiest day for cbc.ca/panam was Sunday, July 19, with almost 2.2 million page views, as coverage of the Canadian men’s baseball team facing off against the United States was streamed online.

The Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games will also be broadcast nationally from August 7 to 15, with daily TV and live streaming coverage that will include the opening and closing ceremonies. Streaming coverage of the Parapan Am Games will be available at cbc.ca/parapanam and via the CBC Sports App.
