SAINT JOHN – Bell Aliant has thrown open the doors of its new $25 million data centre in Saint John, NB.
Certified Tier III by Uptime Institute, it is the first data centre in Atlantic Canada, and one of only 11 in Canada, to achieve this designation. The gold standard for data centres, Tier III certification requires that all mission critical infrastructures be completely redundant to ensure a continuous power supply and protection for customer data.
Announced in February 2014 in partnership with the Government of New Brunswick, the 24,000-square foot (2,230 square metre) data centre boasts one megawatt of storage capacity with built in flexibility to expand up to four times to accommodate demand.
As part of Bell's national network of data centres, the facility delivers value-added enterprise and professional services, including capacity management, disaster recovery planning, security, monitoring, managing and networking services to customers across public and private sectors and regional, national and international markets.
"Applying innovation and vision to develop infrastructure that meets our customers' needs now and in the future is what we do best," said Dan McKeen, Bell Aliant’s vice chair and SVP residential services, in the news release. "We are particularly proud of this facility. Not only does it make good business sense for us, it supports the region's robust ICT sector by providing a local solution for data hosting, a cluster of ICT expertise and a world-class network to support connectivity while creating the right conditions to attract new businesses to the province."
