TORONTO – Vice Canada has launched a Canadian edition of Vice’s U.S. sports channel that it says will consciously avoid a focus on stats and scores in favour of “underreported stories”.
Coming on the heels of launches of local editions of Vice Sports in Germany, Spain and the U.K, Vice Sports Canada will debut this week at Sports.vice.com/ca, a fully responsive platform created for optimal video and content viewing as well as social media sharing, reads the announcement. In addition to daily editorial content, feature articles will include The Toronto Raptors’ ‘We The North’ marketing efforts, Toronto FC’s poor relationship with the local soccer community, and an in depth video profile on Sim Bhullar, a Canadian-born basketball player who became the first person of Indian descent to play in the NBA when he made his debut this season.
“The content will take Vice’s audience behind the scenes, through profiles of some of the most intriguing personalities in sports, the rabid fans cheering for them and the cultural movements surrounding the games”, the announcement continued.
Vice Canada added that it has hired Chris Toman, previously with theScore, as editor of Vice Sports Canada.
