OTTAWA – The Community Radio Fund of Canada (CRFC) has launched a new pilot program offering young Canadians a unique radio experience by means of training grants.

Youth on the Air! is geared towards campus and community radios interested in working with youths in search of training, education and mentorship opportunities. The program’s goal is to foster radio talent and, consequently, strengthen stations’ capacities and productivity. Stations will be able to apply for funding up to a maximum of $10,000.

“We are constantly searching for ways to stimulate the sector and youth represents the future of community radio”, said CRFC president Roger Ouellette, in the news release.  “With the program Youth on the Air!, we hope to turn their interests into passions.”

Guidelines and application forms for the Youth on the Air! program can be found here and stations have until March 31, 2015 to submit their funding application.  Funding for Youth on the Air! is provided by Canada’s private radio broadcasters through their Canadian Content Development (CCD) contributions.

CRFC is the national not-for-profit funding entity responsible for the growth and sustainability of the community and campus radio sector. More than 175 radio stations across Canada make up the community-owned, volunteer-driven sector of Canadian radio broadcasting.
