LONDON – European MVNO Lebara has launched a new free-to-download voice and messaging app in markets including Canada, that promises low cost international calls and flexible top up options.

The telco, which bills itself as the universal brand for the world’s migrant community, said that Lebara Talk is available initially in English, Mandarin, Arabic, Italian, Spanish and Indonesian, with free credit on download for every customer.  Available for smartphones on Android and iOS, the app works across all networks with no need to switch the device's SIM card, allows users to check rates before making a call, and free chat with other Lebara Talk app users.

But its most unique attribute, according to Lebara Group chairman and CEO Yoganathan Ratheesan, is the app’s top up options that include in store with cash or card, as well as in-app or online.

“From experience we know that not everyone has access to a bank account, which is why we partner with local stores who provide a cash top-up option”, he said in the news release.  “We’ve adopted this same approach with Lebara Talk to make the app as universally accessible as possible.”

Founded in 2001, Lebara is one of Europe's fastest growing mobile companies with five million active customers, 1,000 employees worldwide and operations in eight countries.
