OTTAWA – Shaw Communications has signed on as the newest long-term national partner for the Canada Games.
The three-games national partnership will see Shaw become the official telecommunications provider and a major partner for the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, BC, the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, and the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, AB.
Shaw will provide cash and in-kind support, and will leverage its Internet and telecommunications services to keep the Canada Games connected. The Calgary-based company will also provide spectators and athletes with complementary guest access to its Shaw Go WiFi network throughout the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, set to open February 13.
“Over the space of two weeks, thousands of athletes, families and fans will come to Prince George to enjoy the competition and the excitement of The 2015 Canada Winter Games," said Shaw’s VP operations Katherine Emberly, in the news release. "We are proud to work with the organizers to deliver the power of our superior broadband network and our industry leading carrier-grade WiFi service to ensure everyone can stay connected."
“The partnership with Shaw has already resulted in substantial infrastructure upgrades to our region," added Stuart Ballantyne, CEO of the 2015 Canada Winter Games. "These upgrades increase Prince George's ability to host large-scale events in the future, while improving the business services of today."
Held once every two years, alternating between winter and summer, the Canada Games represent the highest level of national competition for up and coming Canadian athletes. The Games have been hosted in every province at least once since their inception in Quebec City during Canada's Centennial in 1967.
