TORONTO – In recognition of its retiring vice chairman Phil Lind, Rogers Communications is donating $125,000 to Vancouver’s Presentation House Gallery to create the Philip B. Lind Emerging Artist Commission.
Lind, recently profiled by Cartt.ca, has been a long-time supporter and collector of Vancouver based-art. While a resident of Toronto, he spends a significant amount of time in Vancouver and is involved in the local arts scene as a patron and a collector, and sits on the board of directors of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
Presentation House Gallery is the only gallery in Western Canada dedicated to photography with an emphasis on contemporary Canadian work. Rogers’ donation will allow the Gallery to select an artist from the graduating class of post-secondary institutions in Vancouver to produce a significant piece to be featured in a Presentation House Gallery exhibition.
Rogers said that it is making this donation to honour Lind’s legacy, and as a thank you for his years of service and contribution to the company and the communications industry.
"I am honoured to have Rogers recognize my interest in art with this gift to Presentation House Gallery" said Lind, in a statement. "The Gallery is a favourite of mine and I'm impressed with their focus and look forward to watching the up-and-coming artists that will benefit from this programme."
While Lind is retiring from active management at Rogers after 45 years with the company, he will continue in an advisory capacity and as a member of Rogers' board of directors and with the Rogers Control Trust.
