TORONTO – Documentary Organization of Canada executive director Lisa Fitzgibbons is stepping down from her role on December 31, after seven years at the helm of the national arts service organization.

Fitzgibbons, pictured, leaves DOC to pursue her work in consulting and advocacy for the cultural sector, according to Tuesday’s announcement.

Throughout her tenure, Fitzgibbons strengthened the association’s relationships with other industry stakeholders and increased the organization’s profile through appearances before the CRTC and various Parliamentary Committees.  Among her notable achievements is the National Road Show on Fair Dealing and Documentary Production which brought together key industry stakeholders to map out best practices for the application of Fair Dealing in documentary production.  Also under her leadership, DOC members effectively advocated across the country for the POV program at the Canada Media Fund.

“Lisa Fitzgibbons has demonstrated exceptional devotion to the documentary community through her tireless work on our behalf”, said Pepita Ferrari, chair of DOC’s National Board of directors, in the announcement.  “We have been extremely fortunate to have had such an articulate and hard working ally in our corner. She will be greatly missed and we wish her well with this next phase in her career.”

As the voice of Canada’s independent documentary creators, DOC champions the production and distribution of documentaries across all platforms; advocates on behalf of creators and producers; and connects and strengthens the Canadian documentary community.
